Squat Racks & Power Cages

Ready to level up your fitness game? Southside Fitness is one of Australia’s go-to fitness equipment providers for power cages and squat racks, and for good reason. With in-house experts who know the ins and outs of exercising, personal training, and how to safely achieve your fitness goals, we can work with fitness newbies and powerlifters alike.

If you’re ready to level up your lifting game and want to chat with our team about the best equipment that will help you achieve your goals, read on below to learn more about when you should use a power rack and the most common questions we get asked about picking the right model for you.

When to Use a Power Rack

Some of our clients have been partnering with Southside Fitness throughout their fitness journeys and have relied on our team to provide them with the best advice and equipment each time they wanted to step it up. If you’re considering incorporating a power rack into your regular line-up, here are some of the best use cases to help you safely achieve your fitness goals:

  1. Moving From Free Weights to Machine Weights: If you’re ready to move from free weights and floor exercising to supported powerlifting, a power rack can help you safely stay within your weight bearing limits—especially without a dedicated spotter around.
  2. Working Out Alone: Like we mentioned above, if you’re working out alone, a power rack has the safety mechanisms needed to ensure you’re exercising safely and have backup measures in place in case of failure.
  3. Significant Increases in Weight: While you should always gradually increase your weight bearing capacities, sometimes you’re reaching for big powerlifting goals, and the safest way to do it is with the support of a machine. Power racks can balance weight increases with equivalent safety, so even when you’re moving out of your comfort zone, safety is always top of mind.

Ready to jump into the big leagues? Read on to review some of the most common questions we get asked about power racks both in-store and online to get the basic intel you’ll need before making a decision.

Power Cage FAQs

Looking for more insight? Here are some of the most commonly asked questions the Southside Fitness team receives about power racks.

Absolutely! If you’re an avid home fitness enthusiast or prefer working out in the gym alone, power racks can allow you to train the main free weight exercises, safely and effectively. Whether you’re working out alone or working to significantly increase your weight bearing capacity, power racks are one of the best options.

Power Racks or Power Cages are fully enclosed and generally offer more safety. Squats Racks are usually slightly smaller and are an open design rather than being fully enclosed like a Power Rack. Both are essential for free weight training.

That depends upon your preference, but generally the squat rack is better for performing deadlifts.

Power racks and power cages are two terms used interchangeably that often refer to the same type of gym equipment. (Fully enclosed rack)

This will depend upon the exercise you are performing. Some exercises require the barbell to be in front of you and other exercises require the bar to be behind you. You can talk with the Southside Fitness staff for additional training advice.
